Aquarium Setups and Livestock - Fish Feeding
Here are the instructions that we use for the house sitter when
we take a holiday and leave for more than one night. We also prefer to
have a dry run with the sitter before we leave, to give us comfort that
all will be well with the tank and fish when we return a week or two
later.
We feed seaweed (nori) during the day, and an assortment of frozen
food in the evening. The daily total for the tank is one 2.8 gram sheet of
nori (8" x 7 1/2"), a 3/4" square from a PE mysis sheet, two cubes of Ocean
Nutrition Angel Formula, a 1/2" cube from a Cyclop-eeze bar, and four
assorted cubes of Hakari Bio-Pure frozen diets.
1. FEEDING – EVERY DAY IN THE EVENING
375 Gallon Tank and Clown Fish
- start thawing around 8:00 pm, feed about 9:00 pm
- empty one small and one large package of frozen food onto a plate
(pre-packaged food is located in two plastic containers in the top drawer
of the freezer), will take 45-60 minutes to thaw
- once thawed, drain the liquid, and break the sponge cubes up with
a knife into small pieces, the end result will be as follows:
- scoop 10-12 PE Mysis pieces (shown at the bottom of the photo)
and 2-3 sponge cubes into the refugium under the stairs (try to
aim towards the back half of the refugium, where the Clown Fish hangs out)
- turn the pump timers behind the bar to 10 minutes
- using the bench to stand on, scoop the mixed food into the 375-gallon tank
2. SEAWEED FEEDING
- Once or twice a day (the seaweed is located in a box on the dresser to the right of the 375-gallon tank)
- the aquarium lights need to be on for seaweed feeding, so if you are in during the day,
feedings around noon and 4:00pm will work
- if you have left before the lights come one, then a single feeding when you are back is fine
- if all else fails on the timing, the addition of seaweed to the evening feeding can be done
- If feeding twice during the day, put 2 sheets into the 375-gallon tank each time
- If feeding once during the day, put 3 sheets in for the single feeding
