Check out our new Metro Vancouver Dog Walks Forum - the most comprehesive listing of dog parks and walks on the web ... over 130 parks shown.
This walk near Maple Ridge is a long car ride from my house, so I go there infrequently. However, it has excellent fresh water, and it's nice and cold for drinking ... which I like. I haven't seen any squirrels yet, but I'm sure they must live there somewhere.
It has a nice forest walk to North Beach from the parking lot (about 2 km), and dogs are allowed to be on the beach and go in the water. The walk reminded me of the Stanley Park trails. I didn't see any poop scoop bags, but Mom always brings them so we were okay. Gold Creek is right beside the forest walk (called North Beach trail) to North Beach, and it has lots of spots to go down for a quick drink and wading. Watch out though, the water can be very fast moving, and you have to be careful of your footing so you don't get swept away (I kept my leash on for extra safety).
All of the dogs at this beach are very well behaved, and you are expected to sit beside your master's towel and relax. After the long walk to the beach, I certainly didn't have any trouble relaxing (except when that seadoo thing came too close to the shore ...).
After this park trip, we usually come home using the Albion Ferry, but I don't really see the attraction (I understand that the Ferry has been discontinued, so no big loss from my perspective). The ferry trip starts out as just a big hot parking lot, with only a little bit of shade beside the washrooms, then we wait for 30 minutes, then we stay in our car on this boat thing, and then it's over.
Overall though, this location is the best water I've found. Most of my water swims are in the ocean, so this park is a treat.
