Every summer my Mom and Dad take a recreational holiday and bring me along. In 2007, I had my second trip to Heffley Lake near Kamloops, and enjoyed it once again. This time, however, the Heffley Lake Fishing Camp was closed down, and we instead went to the Hitch'N'Rail Family Resort. As you can see from the rating, this was a good holiday, but it didn't rate as good as the previous year (a 4.0 paws rating year). This year, I had to be on a rope in the resort area, which crimped by style when chipmunks came around and chattered at me. The resort also didn't have a good direct spot to go into the water. It had several docks, but I'm not much into jumping into the water. I see other dogs do that, but I prefer not to get my face wet.
Instead of staying around the resort during the day, we went on day hikes along the roads and hiking trails. On one logging road walk, I even had a grouse run right in front of me. I was so surprised that I paused for half a second, and that was enough for the grouse to get a head start ... but was that ever exciting!! I kept my eyes peeled for the rest of the walk, and at every field I came across I would pause, hold my breath, and check to see if there was any movement or sound.
On a hiking trail one day, we even saw a herd of cows. Most of the trails that we took were from 30 minutes to 1.5 hours in length, and some had a circle route so we didn't have to backtrack on already smelled out trails.
Our favourite beach area (dubbed sandy beach) also had thousands of small frogs this year, which didn't interest me as much as Mom and Dad. Apparently this happens every year, but you just have to be there at the right time of the summer.
For 2008, we are going to try staying in the Shuswap Lake area. I hope we find a 4.0 paws location.
