During one summer holiday at Idabel Lake near Kelowna, I was introduced to gophers. They are sort of like squirrels, but they live in the ground. It took me a while to figure that out ... I kept looking up into the trees where I would normally see the squirrels go. Once I got that figured out, I'd always be on the lookout to see if there was a gopher sitting on a pile of dirt ... then I'd run like crazy over to it, and even sometime dig the hole out a bit bigger so I could stick my muzzle down into it and get a better sniff.
You have to careful when you're running though, as putting a foot into a gopher hole at full speed wouldn't be good. That possibility dropped the off-leash rating a bit.
There is lots of wildlife at this location (I saw a bear, deer, beavers, and a lynx). It has some good swimming (but not a lot of shade for my Dad while I swim). There is a better human swimming spot in Idabel Lake Resort, but dogs aren't allowed to go there. So, we had to go next door to the boat launch area to get into the water.

| Here is one of those gophers that I discovered at the Idabel Lake Resort | This is the typical chalet cabin that we stayed in | Whenever I went on a walk, I would check out the dirt piles for gophers | This was the scenic view of Idabel Lake from our cabin | Look Daddy, it's a squirrel !! |
| The shoreline also has nice marsh areas, where beavers live | I also saw deer on some of my car rides | Here I am sitting on the dock watching Dad in the water | Look Daddy ... I'm pretty sure I saw a squirrel | I enjoyed walking along the forest roads as well |
Have you visited this holiday location? I would love to hear of your experiences and thoughts.
