Solomon was a devout Baptist, having served as a deacon of the Turtle Creek Baptist Church for more than a quarter of a century at the time of his death.16 He witnessed the marriage of Jonas Berry and Rebecca Mitton on 16 Sep 1849 at Parish of Coverdale, New Brunswick.6 He was a farmer and property owner in 1851.4 In 1851, Delia Steeves (a younger sister of Hannah), age 8, was listed as a lodger with the family.4 He was from English ancestry.4 Also in 1851, Solomon's neighbour was Matthias Berry, age 56 of English origin, married to Delia, age 43. It is assumed that Matthias was Solomon's father. Input from other researchers on this match is appreciated. Delia is likely the same person shown as Dilly Berry, age 74, in the 1881 census, still living next door to Solomon.4,17

A match has not been made between Miledge Berry in the 1901 census and Milledge Berry in the 1851 census as a son of Matthias. The birth dates are apparently 2 years apart, so only the similarity of name and region justifies a match. Input from other researchers on this match is appreciated.

Milledge witnessed the marriage of Gilbert Waymond Berry and Margret Ross on 6 Aug 1881 at Parish of Coverdale, New Brunswick.20 He was farmer, with 30 acres, a 5 room house and a barn in 1901 at Cherryfield, Westmorland, New Brunswick.18

He was also known as Earnest Berry.8 He was a Baptist. After getting married, heErnest Berry and family stayed one year in Moncton, then started west in 1909. The family spent the winter in Winnipeg, Manitoba. His CP Railway position transferred Ernest to Calgary in March 1910 where he worked for two years. He was a CP Railway worker for 33 years as a boiler maker at Port Coquitlam, B.C.42 Around 1913 Ernest Berry and Flora Helen Stiles lived at Langley Prairie, B.C.14 The family photo on the right was taken around this time.

Between 1930 and 1933 Ernest Berry lived at Port Coquitlam, B.C.40,27 He retired and moved to Vancouver in 1946. In Nov 1961 Ernest Berry lived at 5536 Ross Street, Vancouver, B.C.44,42

At Thelma and John's wedding (photo at the right), Thelma's sister (Helen) and John's brother (Dave) joined them in the bridal party.14

Berry family home c1930Thelma moved with her parents to Port Coquitlam in 1913. After a fire destroyed their house around 1930, they sold the family car to help finance a new home in the Merry Hill district, suitable for their growing family. This house is shown at the left.

Thelma met her future husband while working at David Spencer (later Eatons), Thelma in the office, John in shipping.

Between Nov 1961 and Apr 1964 Lionel Grant Berry lived in Chilliwack, B.C.44,61 He was retired in 1973 after a 45 year career with the Royal Bank, ending as the bank manager at Nanaimo, B.C.62,58 Lionel enjoyed gardening, golf and curling as well as fishing and hunting. He was a Rotarian for 37 years, a member of the Nanaimo Coffee Club and a charter member of the Nanaimo Probus Club. He was very civic minded, giving generously to many charities world wide.58

Treva raised her three sons by herself, and took comfort in the friendships established through her many church activities. She contributed her talents at crafts, newsletter editing, and library organization for the First Baptist Church at 969 Burrard Street in Vancouver. She was an active member of the Harrington Circle at the church.

She also enjoyed golf and long walks, and these became a regular routine. Treva travelled extensively. Included in her travel locations were China, the Philippines, Europe, and New Mexico.75 Her name was legally changed to Harris after her divorce to Don Harse. Rather than revert back to her maiden name, Treva wanted her new name to be similar to her children's surnames, hence the choice of Harris.14

Treva Gertrude6 Berry and William Donald Harse had three sons.
