2. John2 McClelland (John1) married Annie Gamble Cuthbert, daughter of John Cuthbert, on 15 June 1878 at Park Gate, Parish of Donegore, Antrim, Ireland.1 He died after February 1898 at Belfast, Ireland.2
 

He raised canaries as a hobby. He was a labourer and member of the teamster local driving a dray (a heavy four wheeled cart used to transport beer kegs). John was killed in a work accident when his dray's horse took fright and ran away. His son John, who would have been 13-15 years old at the time, gave up a college scholarship and went to work to support the family.2,3
 

Annie Gamble Cuthbert was born circa 1859.4 She died of pulmonary tuberculosis, a condition of four months duration on 3 September 1916 at 80 Spamount Street, Belfast, County Antrim, Ireland.5,4 She was employed as a midwife, and was a tall woman, heavy set with large bones and distinctive red hair.2

  • +  6  iv.   John McClelland was born on 26 October 1881 at Moyadam, Antrim, Ireland. He married Isabella Cochrane Sloane, daughter of Robert Sloane, on 24 October 1904 at Agnes Street Presbyterian Church, Belfast, Parish of Shankill, Ireland. He married Elizabeth Mary Trewin, daughter of William Trewin and Eliza Ann Hocking, on 19 June 1912 at Central Methodist Parsonage, Calgary, Alberta.

  •     7  v.   Agnes McClelland was born on 3 March 1887 at Belfast, Ireland.6,7,8 She married Alexander Yeats on 7 June 1911 at Calgary, Alberta.9 Agnes and Alexander had no children, so the child in the photo is perhaps that of a neighbor or a relative, photo courtesy of Sadie McClelland. She died on 26 December 1979 at Sarcee Auxilliary Hospital, Calgary, Alberta, at age 92.10,6,7 She was buried on 28 December 1979 at Burnsland Cemetery, Calgary, Alberta.6,11,8

She brought her brother John's three children (Mildred, Frederick and John) out to Calgary in 1912 to join their father. John's wife, Isabella, had died earlier in Belfast.3
Alexander Yeats was born circa 1885 at Scotland.12,13 He was a well-known local contractor and resident of Calgary for 25 years, prior to his tragic death in a car accident on 13 March 1933.14,13

 

  • +  8  vi.   Emily Gamble McClelland was born on 12 February 1898 at Belfast, County Antrim, Ireland. She married Jim Prenter at Belfast, County Antrim, Ireland.

  •     9  vii.   Unknown McClelland died in March 1917 at Belfast, County Antrim, Ireland.5
    He was adopted by Annie, and brought into the family.5
