5. David3 Searight (William2, John1) was born on 13 May 1834.8,1 He married Susan Greer.1 He died of heart disease on 26 April 1909 in Carnew, Banbridge, County Down, Ireland, at age 74.1

He was a farmer and weaver.1

Susan Greer was born circa 1828.1 She died of phthisis (an eye disease) on 3 September 1867 in Carnew, County Down, Ireland.1

Children of David3 Searight and Susan Greer were as follows:

  • 12 i. John4 Searight was born on 19 January 1860 in Dromara, County Down, Ireland.5

  • 13 ii. Nancy Searight was born circa 1862.1 She died of whooping cough on 10 November 1866 in Carnew, County Down, Ireland.1

  • 14 iii. William Searight was born on 13 December 1864 in Carnew, Banbridge, County Down, Ireland.1

6. Samuel3 Seright (William2Searight, John1) was born on 21 December 1836 in Dromara, County Down, Ireland.9,5,4,10 He married Susan Bowie, daughter of William Bowie and Jane Crawford, on 23 November 1858 in Ayr, Ayrshire, Scotland.4,11 He died of senile decay on 14 October 1921 in Old Kilpatrick, Dunbartonshire, Scotland, at age 84.12,11,13,14,15,16 He was buried on 16 October 1921 in Cathcart Cemetery, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland (cemetery information).17,8

In 1881 Samuel Seright and Susan Bowie lived in Polmadie Road, Govan, Lanarkshire, Scotland.9 He was a master brickmaster between 1881 and 1885.9,18

Susan Bowie was born circa 1835 in Ayr, Ayrshire, Scotland.19,17,9 She died of cerebral softening on 5 February 1899 in Blairdardie, New Kilpatrick, Scotland.12,13,14,15,20 She was buried on 7 February 1899 in Cathcart Cemetery, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland (cemetery information).17 She was also known as Susannah Bowie.4,11 She was a servant at Broom Berry Farm in 1858.4

Children of Samuel3 Seright and Susan Bowie were as follows:

  • + 15 i. Dr. William4 Seright, born 28 March 1859 in High Balsarroch, Dalrymple, Ayrshire County, Scotland; married Jane Brown.

  • + 16 ii. Jean Seright, born 27 September 1860 in Ayr, Ayrshire, Scotland; married James McGregor.

  • + 17 iii. John S. Seright, born 14 December 1862 in Crofs Street, St. Quivox, Ayr, Ayrshire, Scotland; married Sarah Townsend.

  • 18 iv. Samuel Seright was born on 15 December 1864 in Ayr, Ayrshire, Scotland.9,5,11,21 He married Margaret Angus.8 He married Margaret Severight, daughter of John Severight and Jessie McCallum, on 28 June 1912 in Govan, Lanarkshire, Scotland, by declaration in front of witnesses rather than a church ceremony.21 He was murdered by a former employee, David Larson on 14 August 1935 in Amisk, Alberta, at age 70.22,8,23,24 He was buried on 25 August 1935 in Bethany Lutheran Cemetery, Amisk, Alberta.8

    In 1912 Samuel Seright lived in Greenock, Renfrewshire, Scotland, with his oldest brother, Dr. William Seright and his family.21 It is not known whether Margaret Angus is the same person as Margaret Severight. The vital statistics record for the marriage of Samuel and Margaret Severight indicates she was a German cousin.21  Perhaps someone can shed light on these two names?  Sam was a well respected  farmer in Amisk, Alberta.8,24

  • 19 v. Margaret Seright was born on 27 August 1866 in High Church, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland.11,5 She died of typhoid fever on 25 October 1885 in Blairdardie Brickworks, East Kilpatrick, Dunbartonshire, Scotland, at age 19.11,18 She was buried on 27 October 1885 in Cathcart Cemetery, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland (cemetery information).17

    She was employed as a dressmaker.18

  • + 20 vi. Robert Bowie Seright, born 7 September 1868 in Erskine, Renfrewshire, Scotland; married Mary ???

  • + 21 vii. Susan Seright, born circa 1870 in Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland; married Arthur McIntyre.

  • + 22 viii. Christine Seright, born 29 October 1872 in Govan, Lanarkshire, Scotland; married James Boomer.

  • + 23 ix. Henry French Seright, born 1875 in Hutchesontown, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland; married Agnes McGloan.

  • 24 x. Alexander Seright was born in 1876 in Hutchesontown, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland.11 He married Margaret ??? in Calgary, Alberta.25,24

    He immigrated on 17 March 1906 to Canada.24 Alexander established a homestead in Daysland, southwest of where present day Amisk, Alberta is located.24 He became the first man to carry mail from Amisk to Puffer, on a weekly basis, starting around 1910.24  Like his brother Samuel, he was a farmer in Amisk, Alberta.8 The photo to the left shows his wife Margaret, circa 1935 (many thanks to Judy Dubauskas for the scan).

    Alexander and Margaret are known to have had at least one child, a daughter.

  • + 25 xi. James Seright, born 28 April 1879 in Hutchesontown, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland; married Jane Barron.

  • + 26 xii. Elizabeth Ann Seright, born between 1880 and 1881 in Hutchesontown, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland; married William Holmes.

10. Elizabeth3 Searight (William2, John1) was born on 7 October 1848 in Dromara, County Down, Ireland.5 She married James Meekens, son of James Meekens, on 1 November 1871 in Banbridge Road Presbyterian Church, Dromore, County Down, Ireland.1

Elizabeth3 Searight and James Meekens are known to have had at least one child:

  • 27 i. Mary4 Meekin.
