Presenting a Chow Chow's perspective

Other Pets in my Household - Memorial - Baron Chow

Notice: On March 22nd 2004, we said goodbye to Baron as illnesses had substantially reduced his quality of life. His diabetes was well managed, but he had developed a tumour on his bladder in December 2003 ... it was inoperable. Medication helped to maintain Baron's energy and spirit, while minimizing any pain ... but we knew it was only a matter of time. We enjoyed his companionship to the end, as he was always ready to join us for any family activity. These pages are a testament to the unconditional love that he gave to us.

Baron Chow wearing his bandanaThis is me, Baron, . . . a rather handsome purebred Chow Chow in my red bandana. I am a security guard for a small residential estate, and enjoy taking on-leash walks around the neighbourhood and swimming at the local park (except not in the winter since it takes forever for me to dry without nice sunshine).

I have 2 cat friends, who adore me. Winston is shown at the left wearing his Christmas reindeer antlers, and Woody is on the right playing with a bag of his favourite drugs (cat nip). Woody also published a guest editorial in March 2003.

Also, we rarely get bothered by door-to-door salespeople at my home -- a barking Chow is quite a deterrent!  I'm actually a sweetie, but don't tell anyone.

In early 2002, I was diagnosed as having diabetes. You can read about my diagnosis and treatment by following the "Living with Diabetes" link.

One of my favourite past times is sitting out on my sundeck, and watching people walk by on the street. If they walk too fast though, or are doddling too much, I'll give them a bark or two to let them know I'm watching (and warn them not to come onto my small residential estate). I also enjoy being out there at night, when it's cooler. And when it's not raining, I can even see the sky and stars.

That's why I've joined the SETI@home program, to contribute my parent's computer into finding those ET's.  I recently passed the "200 units" milestone. To encourage other Chows out there, a SETI Chow Team has also been created, aptly called "Chow Lovers", so you can join the effort too.
